#10 - Stuðlagil | Basalt Column Canyon
Stuðlagil (also known as Studlagil Canyon) is located in the east of Iceland in an area called Jökuldalur which translates to Glacier Valley. This rare and hidden gem is certainly one of the most beautiful places that we have ever visited. Hundreds of years ago, this basalt canyon was submerged by one of the most powerful glacial rivers in Iceland. Now the river is quite gentle and peaceful. Perfect for exploring and taking breathtaking photos. This is one of our favorite locations for amazing drone wedding photography in Iceland.
#9 Jökulsárlón | Glacial Lagoon
Jökulsárlón (also known as Jokulsarlon) is a magnificent glacial lagoon with vibrant blue icebergs and a black sand beach. The lagoon is created by Breiðamerkurjökull glacier. The best time of year to do wedding photos here is usually in late spring, summer, or fall. During winter, the lagoon freezes and there are fewer icebergs. Every time we do a wedding or couples photo shoot at this incredible place, both us and our clients always feel like this is one of the most beautiful places in Iceland.
The ice from the glacial lagoon flows out to sea and then when the tide comes back in, the icebergs get washed up onto a black beach. This place is known as the famous Diamond beach. It is located about a 1 minute drive from the glacial lagoon parking lot. Diamond beach is another incredible spot for breathtaking wedding photos.

#8 Kirkjufellsfoss
Kirkjufellsfoss is a breathtaking waterfall with a view of Kirkjufell mountain which translates to Church Mountain, since the unique shape resembles a church. This beautiful waterfall and cone shaped mountain are located in Grundarfjörður (Grundarfjordur) on the Snæfellsnes (Snaefellsnes) Peninsula. We always love going to this location with our couples, especially during sunset!

#7 Reynisfjara | Black sand beach
Almost every beach in Iceland is a black beach. But the most famous one is at Reynisfjara on the south coast. It’s well known for the basalt columns and the iconic rock formations in the ocean. It is believed that late at night, two trolls were pulling a three masted ship to the beach. However, when the sun began to rise, the morning light turned them all to stone. We always enjoy coming to this beautiful beach. It can get quite crowded with people, but with many years of experience shooting here, we have discovered ways to still get those incredible wedding photos. It is located on the south coast of Iceland near Vík (Vik), right next to the ring road.
#6 Gljúfrabúi
One of the most unique waterfalls in Iceland that we have ever visited is Gljúfrabúi (Gljufrabui) also known as Gljúfrafoss. This crazy beautiful hidden waterfall is inside a vibrantly green moss-covered cave. It is a bit tricky getting inside. The stunning couple in the photo had to enter through a small gorge and very carefully walk on stones placed in a river that they followed until they were at the base of the waterfall. Once inside, you find yourself standing in amazement that this place exists. This gorgeous place is located right next to Seljalandsfoss on the south coast of Iceland.
#5 Goðafoss
One of the most popular and iconic waterfalls in north Iceland is Goðafoss (Godafoss). The name translates to waterfall of the Gods, which we feel is an appropriate name for this massive waterfall (but also charming at the same time). This historic place was given its name back in they year 1000, when Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði converted the religion in Iceland to Christianity and gave his Norse God status to this waterfall. The couple in the photo had an unforgettable journey around the north and this was one of our many stops. They were brave enough to stand near the edge of the cliff as they felt the power of the waterfall next to them - we love this photo. It is located about 30 minutes east of Akureyri and 2 hours west of the famous Dettifoss waterfall.
#4 Inside a Glacier
This adventurous couple wanted their pre wedding photos inside a glacier in Iceland. It was an amazing experience being their photographer. We hired a guide to get us safely to and from the ice cave. It really wasn’t that difficult of a journey and we can recommend it to anyone that is interested in having an ice cave wedding or would like elopement photos either inside of or on top of an Icelandic glacier.
#3 Skógafoss
Skógafoss (Skogafoss) has to be the most famous and most photographed waterfall in Iceland (or perhaps it is even with Seljalandsfoss). This makes perfect sense because it leaves us amazed every time we go there. One of the most amazing parts about it is that you can walk very close to this massive waterfall.
#2 The Arctic Henge | Heimskautsgerðið
The Arctic Henge aka Heimskautsgerðið is magical and a very unique place in the northeast of Iceland. This lovely couple wanted their pre wedding photos taken at the Arctic Henge, and it turned out amazing. The cone like arches create some very interesting angels for photos and we were lucky enough to get great photos during sunset. It had a very similar feel to the famous Stonehenge.
#1 Brúarfoss waterfall
This hidden gem is known as Iceland’s bluest waterfall. This rich blue color is created by the water rushing through a deep crevasse, formed by black volcanic rock formations. Brúarfoss (Bruarfoss) waterfall is one of our favorite places for wedding, engagement, and proposal photos. The combination of having this adventurous couple wanting engagement style photography with the vividly blue waterfall and the yellow, orange, and red fall colors made for an epic photo session. So many colors! The waterfall is located on the Golden Circle in Iceland. Just about an hour drive from Reykjavík.
